There is a modification for making the bunny with chunky yarn, making it bigger and adding safety eyes down below at the end of the pattern.

Happy crocheting!

(left) Worsted Weight yarn (right) Chunky yarn. Same pattern.
Used Coboo yarn (light 3) yarn

Materials:

  • F – 3.75 mm crochet hook
  • Medium Worsted weight (#4) yarn
  • I used :
  • Hobby Lobby – I love this yarn solid – in the color Rosy Cheeks
  • Black/Brown Embroidery Floss for the eys
  • Amethyst Metallic embroidery floss – for the nose
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch markers (highly recommend this extra piece of yarn works great)
  • Poly-fil – I use the one for doll making
  • (Optional) Pins to help with ears and arms placements.
  • (Optional) Blush or paint for the cheeks. Add a little at a time.

Abbreviations:

Stitches:

CHchain

ST – stitch (stitch space)

Sl Stslip stitch

SC – single crochet

SC INC – single crochet increase (2 sc in the same st)

INV DEC – invisible SC decrease ( decrease using FLO)

FLO – front loop only

Other:

F.O: fasten off

MC – magic circle / magic ring

Read Before beginning:

  • STITCH MARKER – You will be working in rounds so keep a stitch marker close to use when working up the doll. Unless otherwise stated to CH and turn. They will mark the 1st st of each round.
  • TENSION – Make sure you use a tight enough tension to help close any “holes” a loose tension may cause. I crochet yarning under then Over to create a tighter stitch. Go down a hook size if needed. ( my tension is naturally tight)
  • ASSEMBLY – Body, and head are worked in one piece. Ears, arms, legs, and tail are separate but work up pretty quickly.
  • STUFFING – When using poly-fil make sure to use it to shape your amigurumi. For this one, you want the body and head a bit dense so it keeps its shape and looks fuller.
  • BLUSH (OPTIONAL)- This is optional but you could also use blush to add some sweetness to the cheeks. I use cosmetic grade blush using a dense small brush and little at a time.
  • Pattern- (EX. *SC in 8, INV DEC in the next. Repeat from * to the end. (36) ) You will end that round with the second step of what that round instructs. This will vary.

Pattern START HERE – With main color + poly-fil (Fill in as you go)

Face Embroidery

I started with the nose to center the face using the metallic embroidery floss. I went across two stitches and down two rows for the mouth.

For the eyes, I created a “^” as shown in the picture. Feel free to do any other kinds you’d prefer 🙂

Add some blush right underneath the eyes for some extra sweetness. 🙂

MODIFICATION WITH CHUNKY (5weight) YARN

Materials:

The only materials I used differently were the crochet hook and yarn.

I used

  • Premier yarn – Bloom Chunky in Snapdragon. (results will vary in regards to color pooling)
  • 4.50 mm Crochet hook. Feel free to go up or down a size depending on your tension. This is so we minimize the large gaps between the stitches.

Notes:

  • I used the exact same pattern above for this bunny. I didn’t add or remove rounds.
  • When working with this specific yarn, There is a colorful center that was designed for a floral design. I started crocheting with the end from inside the skein. When I finished the bunny I fasten it off and then started working with the end from outside of the skein.

For the eyes and nose:

  • The safety eyes size I used was 9 mm. But you can use any other size or method as embroidering eyes as well.
  • Stop at Round 19 to insert safety eyes between Rounds 17 & 18. With 3 stitches in between or as desired. Centered. I waited to add the back of the safety eyes after the nose so I could adjust anything if needed.
  • Embroider the nose in the center of the two eyes. one row down weaving the yarn between two stitches. approximately 3 times and one center vertical line for the mouth as shown below.

Limbs:

Will come back and update you here soon.
