How to color change yarn in crochet

How to change yarn colors in crochet.

This technique is useful when working on crochet projects that require color change. The method below is what I use when doing color changes in amigurumi. I took step-by-step photos to better show you the process.

You will need a pair of scissors to cut off the yarn that will no longer be in use, in this case, the pink yarn. And also to cut the ends when secured with a knot.

In amigurumi, I personally do not weave in the two ends I join together because they wouldn’t be seen anyway, which is perfect because the fewer ends I have to weave in the better, right?! lol

Let’s begin learning how to color change. Pictures will be below the designated step.

1 – Change colors right before you finish the last st of the round you are working on.

2 – Grab the new yarn color and yarn over to finish the stitch.

3- Now you have finished the last st of that round/row.

4 – Complete your first stitch with the new color in the next round/row.

5- Cut the yarn no longer in use, leave a few inches long.

6 – Turn the work over, secure both ends with two knots.

6 – Secured with two knots.

7 – Cut the excess yarn ends.

Repeat the process of adding new yarn colors as needed.
