CROCHET BABY BEAR

Welcome everyone to another fun DIY crochet pattern! Today I have an amigurumi bear pattern that I am so proud of! I mean, I love them all but this size is what I was looking for. Not too big but also not too small. I made my nephew the blue/green color bear and embroidered the eyes for extra safety if he will have it in his crib. And my daughter requested a polar bear and she is 3+ in age so I added some safety eyes to give you options! I love that she requested a polar bear. I had fun making them both. The polar bear still is getting some flushed cheeks and perhaps a plower crown. I will definitely be updating here.

From the bottom to the tip of the ears this bear measures approximately 10 inches in height and almost 4 inches in width.

You can make this with any sized yarn, just be mindful with yarn and hook combos. You want those stitches closed for the poly-fil not to spill through. This pattern literally is one that flys off my hook. So if you are looking for a newborn gift or a polar bear. This is one you have to try out!

I have a YouTube channel where I show you how I join the legs step by step to help you avoid any confusion there. After the joining section, it’s a breeze!

Check out my 5 ESSENTIAL TECHNIQUES WHEN CROCHETING AMIGURUMI

Materials:
  •  G 6/ 4.00mm crochet hook
  • Medium Worsted weight (#4) yarn

I used :

Hobby Lobby yarn – in Antique White and Ocean for the light blue bear with cream color for the mouth.

Black yarn – for eyelashes and nose

  • 2 – 10mm Safety Eyes
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch markers (highly recommend this extra piece of yarn works great) X2
  • Poly-fil – I use the ones for doll making
  • (Optional) Pins to help with ears and arms placements.
  • (Optional) Blush or paint for the cheeks. Add a little at a time.
Abbreviations:

Stitches:

CHchain

ST – stitch (stitch space)

Sl Stslip stitch

SC – single crochet

FLO – front loop only

SC INC – single crochet increase (2 sc in the same st)

INV DEC – invisible SC decrease ( decrease using FLO)

Other:

F.O: fasten off

MC – magic circle / magic ring

Read Before beginning:
  • STITCH MARKER – You will be working in rounds so keep a stitch marker close to use when working up the doll. Unless otherwise stated to CH and turn. They will mark the 1st st of each round.
  • TENSION – Make sure you use a tight enough tension to help close any “holes” a loose tension may cause. I crochet yarning under then Over to create a tighter stitch. Go down a hook size if needed. ( my tension is naturally tight)
  • ASSEMBLY – The amigurumi is worked up by first making two legs, joining them together, and working up the body and the head in one piece. Arms, tail, mouth, and ears are separate.
  • STUFFING – When using poly-fil make sure to use it to shape your amigurumi. For this one, you want the body and head a bit dense so it keeps its shape and looks fuller. Focusing on the legs up to the middle of the body.
  • BLUSH (OPTIONAL) This is optional but you could also use blush to add some sweetness to the cheeks. I use cosmetic grade blush using a dense small brush and a little at a time. I have heard paint, fabric crayons, and wax doll crayons work as well.
  • PATTERN (EX. *SC in 8, INV DEC in the next. Repeat from * to the end. (36) ) You will end that round with the second step of what that round instructs. This will vary.
