Read Before beginning:

  • STITCH MARKER – You will be working in rounds so keep a stitch marker close to use when working up the doll. Unless otherwise stated to CH and turn. They will mark the 1st st of each round. I use scrap yarn pieces. You need at least 2 when working the legs and during joining them.
  • TENSION – Make sure you use a tight enough tension to help close any “holes” a loose tension may cause. I crochet yarning under then Over to create a tighter stitch. Go down a hook size if needed. ( my tension is naturally tight)
  • ASSEMBLY – The amigurumi is worked up by first making two legs then joining together. I have a YOUTUBE VIDEO on how to do that. Then you work up the body and head. Other body parts are made and sewn on after. https://youtu.be/h4A5-Lm-yPM
  • Pattern- (EX. *SC in 8, INV DEC in the next. Repeat from * to the end. (36) ) You will end that round with the second step of what that round instructs. This will vary.

Embroidery

Note before starting: I started with the nose. This way it will help center the face and if you need to redo it would be easy to remove. I followed up with the whiskers and the eyes at the end.

I aligned the inner corner of the eye to the whiskers so it was nice and even! Have fun!

Nose – With pink yarn

I stitch the nose around two stitches between rounds

57 and 56 then a vertical line for the mouth, down 2 stitches.

Whiskers – with taupe/ brown yarn

I made the whiskers 2 stitches away from the center of the pink vertical line.

Eyes – with black yarn

I stopped and embroidered the face at round 60 as shown on the right. 3 stitches apart.

I recommend safety eyes places between rounds 59 and 58 about 5 stitches apart. (optional)

( I have an IGTV demo video of these eyes on my Instagram @arianaehall )

Crochet cat process photos.

Crochet cat and crochet blue matching bows.

Bows

Note before starting: I used worsted yarn (Yarn Bee – Natures Nook in Sage Gray) and the same 3.50mm crochet hook for both. You will need an alligator clip for the little girl’s bow, after I finished the bow I simply pushed through the top of the clip in the back through the wrapping I made. You can also hot glue and add some felt for a clean look as well.

Luna’s Bow

Row 2 – DC in every st. (4) CH 2, Turn.

Continue alternating Row 2 and Row 3 until you have a total of 13 rows ending with an HDC. Fasten off and leave a long tail to sew the ends together and wrap about 10 – 13x in the center of the bow pulling tightly to cinch it. secure with a knot in the back and sew to Luna’s right or left ear.

Matching Little girls bow

Pink and purple crochet kitty cat being held up.

Hey! welcome to the modified version of Luna! I used Sugarplum Baby Bee Adore-A-Ball Yarn from hobby lobby. I purchased two skeins of that and had a bit leftover so that was pretty cool! The ends do fray but I was impressed by how much it didn’t really bother me. If you want it extra secure just tie a knot on the end before you weave it in. Super soft and cuddly! Don’t forget to keep an eye on that 30% off yarn discount every other week! The legs are joined just the same as the worsted-sized Luna. If you need help with that step, I have a video that can help you through that. Youtube video on how to join legs – https://youtu.be/h4A5-Lm-yPM

This Bulky sized Luna measures approximately 17 inches tall from head to legs. Perfect as an extra cuddly size!*

*Size may vary with different yarn brands and tensions. But as long as you are using a Bulky yarn it will be a bigger version of the original Luna. If you want a smaller luna just follow this modified version with light or worsted yarn. So fun to play with different sizes!

Hope you enjoy this and if you make one please tag me on social media so I can see and share your creation! @arianaehall (Instagram)
