SUNFLOWER APPLIQUE CROCHET PATTERN

Sunflowers are so beautiful. They are a flower that makes you smile. I like adding sunflowers to my garlands and home decor in the Fall time. So I decided to make one for my daughter’s scarf!

Going to the pumpkin patch may be a little different this year and I have no clue as to if they will open or not. But I hope they do because this scarf would be so cute for it!

I hope you enjoy making it as much as I did.

This measures approximately 5 inches around.

I added this Sunflower applique to my Kids Scallop Scarf you can find HERE.

Also combined with the Scarecrow Applique you can find HERE.

If you make one make sure to tag me so I can see and share it!

Materials:

  • 5.00 mm Crochet Hook
  • Worsted #4 yarn.

Yellow

Brown

  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Abbreviations:

CH – chain

MC – magic circle (aka-magic ring)
ST – stitch
SK – skip stitch
Sl ST – slip stitch

SC – single crochet
YO – yarn over

INC – increase- place two stitches in the same stitch.

Notes:

You will be joining at the end of each round of the face and CH 1 does not count as a stitch so you will make your first stitch the same as where you chained throughout the pattern.

Pattern:

With brown yarn.

5 SC in MC ( pull the tail tight to close the circle.)

Round 1 –  SC INC in every stitch. Join. CH 1 (10)

Round 2 – *SC, INC in the next. Alternate from * to the end. Join. CH 1 (15)

Round 3 – *SC, SC, INC. Alternate from * to the end. Join. CH 1 (20)

Round 4 – *SC, SC, SC, INC. Alternate from * to the end. Join. CH 1 (25)

Round 5 – *SC, SC, SC, SC, INC. Alternate from * to the end.  Join. CH 1 (30)

Fasten Off and weave in the ends.

Join Yellow yarn.

Step 1-6 – CH 4, YO 3 times, you will have 4 loops on your hook. Insert the hook in the same st as the CH 3, YO and pull through 2 loops. Repeat 3 more times.

Step 7- 12 –

CH 1, SC in the st at the top (last st made).

CH4, SLST in the same st

SL SLT in the next 2 sts.

Keep Repeating Steps 1 -12 until you have 16 petals.  Sl st in the first petal st and Fasten off. Weave in the ends.

If you would like to add this to a scarf as I did to the Kids version Scallop Scarf, Make sure you sew on the edges of the center brown of the flower using the color of the scarf and making sure you go in between the single crochet stitch and not let it show up on the front of the flower. Then do the same for the 16 yellow petals to really secure the applique on the project.
